SBC Ontario hiring a fractional Executive Director
SBC Ontario is looking for a Fractional Executive Director to join our organization and help lead the next chapter of our provincial network.
Across Ontario, entrepreneurs and small business owners turn to their local Small Business Centres for guidance, resources, connections and support. Behind those centres is a strong provincial network and we’re looking for someone who can help us make that network even stronger.
Small Business Centres Ontario (SBC Ontario) represents a province-wide network of small business support centres committed to strengthening entrepreneurship and supporting the growth and success of Ontario’s small businesses.
We are currently accepting applications for a Fractional Executive Director, a part-time contract role that combines leadership, relationship building, program development, communications and day-to-day association management.
This is not your typical Executive Director role
We’re looking for someone who is equally comfortable thinking strategically and rolling up their sleeves to get things done.
One day you may be working with the Board on strategic priorities. The next, you could be connecting with government partners, developing a new member initiative, coordinating professional development, preparing a newsletter, updating the website or identifying a new partnership opportunity.
That variety is a big part of this opportunity.
The Fractional Executive Director will work closely with the SBC Ontario Board and our members to turn ideas into action while ensuring the organization continues to operate effectively. Responsibilities include managing operations, projects, budgets, reporting and Board activities.
Our Executive Director will build and maintain relationships with provincial and federal government partners, funders and sector stakeholders, while supporting advocacy efforts that strengthen Ontario’s Small Business Enterprise Centre network.
You’ll also represent SBC Ontario at meetings, roundtables, conferences and sector events and help identify new funding, partnership, sponsorship and program opportunities.
Just as importantly, you’ll stay closely connected to our members.
That means understanding what our centres and business advisors need and helping create programs, resources and professional development opportunities that provide meaningful value across the network.
You’ll also help amplify the impact of our Small Business Centres
Ontario’s Small Business Centres do incredible work in communities across the province, and part of this role is helping more people understand that impact.
Working alongside our Marketing & Membership Committee, the Executive Director will help increase awareness of SBC Ontario, strengthen member communications and share the stories of our network.
You’ll coordinate our newsletter, maintain website content in WordPress, support initiatives of our centres and keep members, partners and stakeholders informed and engaged.
Who are we looking for?
You might come from association management, nonprofit leadership, economic development, entrepreneurship or small business support.
More important than one particular career path is your ability to connect people, manage priorities and make things happen.
You’re organized and comfortable working independently. You know how to work effectively with Boards, committees and multiple stakeholders. You communicate well, build strong relationships and understand budgets, funding and partnerships.
You’re also comfortable with the technology that keeps a modern association running. Experience with tools such as WordPress, Thinkific, Trello, Slack, email marketing platforms and Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace will be valuable.
And if you already understand Ontario’s small business and economic development ecosystem, even better.
Why consider a fractional leadership role?
This opportunity offers something a little different from a traditional Executive Director position.
The role is approximately 20–25 hours per week, contract-based and primarily remote, with occasional travel to events and meetings across Ontario.
It could be an excellent fit for an experienced association or economic development professional looking for a flexible leadership opportunity, a consultant or fractional executive interested in a longer-term organizational role, or someone who wants to use their experience to make an impact across Ontario’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
You’ll have the opportunity to work with people who spend every day helping entrepreneurs turn ideas into businesses, businesses into employers and local companies into contributors to thriving Ontario communities.
If that sounds like work you’d find meaningful, we’d like to hear from you.
Ready to apply?
Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your qualifications and your vision for the role to connect@sbcontario.ca.
Applications will be accepted until October 2, 2026, and the opportunity is open to Ontario residents only.
