• Daniel West

Just four years ago, Daniel West was working at a neighbouring farm doing milling work. Today he is the owner of “Big Ass Slabs”, a business that currently carries over 600 pieces of live edge wood.

Daniel doesn’t cut trees down but salvages urban logs, cuts, dries, and surfaces the slabs, and sells them to his woodworking clients. He also does timber framing for outdoor structures like gazebos. Daniel was in the process of expanding his business when Covid-19 hit. Like other businesses he had to re-evaluate how he went about providing products and service to his clients.

Daniel has created an e-commerce store to sell his wood slabs and timbers so that customers can now shop in the safety of their homes while using curb-side pick up to get their purchases. He has learned to navigate the changing restrictions and is dedicated to following the necessary protocol. Although creating his e-commerce site was time-consuming, Daniel understands that it was a key factor in the survival of his business and will position him where he needs to be in a post-Covid world. By putting in the time and being open to new ideas, Daniel will be helping trees live on in people’s homes for years to come.
